Omg! Could this series get any better? This book just proves over and over what an incredibly talented author A.M. Snead/C.J. Bishop is. Her world building is so "real" that you swear you could walk out your front door and you'd be right there, and the large cast of characters that she creates are so multifaceted, so real ... I honestly don't know how she does it. But thank goodness she does!This book continues the story of Clint "The Cowboy" and Cochise and their respective newly formed families. There is humor and heartbreak and so much heat you might want to read with a box of tissues and a fire extinguisher. In this volume we see more vulnerabilities with our two "heroes" and we also see just how great the power of love can really be.I don't want to say too much and spoil things but I will say that this book deserves 10 stars and is in a class all its own (with the previous books, that is). This series is one I will read over and over again and never get tired of. Truly a work of art in word form!
First, let me say that I have read all of the Gangster Cowboy and Phoenix series of stories. I love the characters that C J Bishop has created (although some are so similar that it is difficult to keep them separated) and the stories are woven in an engrossing and seductive way - a master storyteller! The books are lengthy, so it gives the author plenty of time to fully develop a plot and gives the reader plenty of time to develop an interest in it. The novels are difficult to put down and often find myself reading them in one sitting - hours of reading until finished! THAT BEING SAID, I have a few bones to pick with the author. First, while I am sure that a proofreading tool was used such as Spellcheck, there were many grammatical mistakes such as sentence fragments and omitted connective words - such as "to", "and", "the" - that probably would have been detected by having an actual person read the story before it was published. If a real person was hired to read the book first, then they should be fired. These types of errors cause the reader to stop and try to ascertain what the author was trying to relate to the reader, and it disrupts the flow of the story. Another peeve of mine is not that the author crams so much activity into the lives of her characters, but rather that it is impossible that these stories could take place in such a brief period of time. People meet, develop feelings for each other, move in together, get married, foster/adopt children, take vacations, rescue loved ones/abused children from the dark, nefarious underbelly of society all in the space of a year! (In this book, Axel responds to an inquiry as to how long the Cowboy and he had been together and he responds that they met "a year ago!" Really?? They met, developed feelings for each other which evolved into love, Axel was kidnapped and abused almost to death, recovered, took months of martial arts training from Cory, battled bad guys to save his Cowboy, moved into a new home, had housewarming parties, decided to bring a foster child into their lives AND a take on a newborn baby ALL IN A YEAR????????????) As you're reading these stories, you feel as though they are taking place over weeks or months at a time when they are actually taking place over the span of a few days. It's totally unbelievable. In this story, Cowboy and Axel bring Luke - an abused foster child -into their home without knowing him very well at all and within 24 hours he's fully adjusted to his new home and happy as a clam. OH, they also brought a newborn home the very next day. Luke loves the baby and his new daddies and everyone has settled into complete domesticity within 48 hours. These adjustments/feelings/emotions take time to develop, yet C J Bishop crams it all into a few days. As much as I love this author, I get so ticked at issues like this. I would still recommend this book. Maybe you won't be as demanding of credibility as I am.
What can be said about CJ? She hits it out of the park every single time. I love how you get multiple stories in every book. You got a story about Clint and Axel, Kane and Cochise, John and Donald, and Frank and Wil. We are also seeing Zoe venture out into dating for the first time. CJ's books are so full and rich that you feel like you are a part of their amazing and boisterous family. I can't wait for the next book!!
Since the book is filled with many stories that can easily be spoiled in an review Im writing a short review that's none spoiler free!CJ Bishop is back with a new book in the Cowboy Gangster series! The story continues where the last book ended in the series! Clint and Cochise is trying to settling down into a normal life outside of the mob life for the sake of their loved ones. With the treath of a new mob on the rise we follow them all when new challenges is on the horizon for them all. In this book we get to follow some of the children that Clint and Cochise rescued in the last book as they slowly recover from the horrors they went through as they all tries to move on and build new life's. Will the former gangsters manage to settle down or will they be dragged down into the life they been slowly getting out of?As always CJ Bishops stories is such an amazing and thrilling read that's so worth reading!
Nothing like one bad boy Cowboy with a penchant for taking care of those he loves! And let me tell ya, this Cowboy loves hard! In reading the previous Book I wondered how things would go. This book answers many questions from The Innocent, but of course leaves you with a few new questions.Oh and if your wondering how the very quiet partner, Cochise fairs, you get some answers here as well.Very well written and follows the timeline of past events extremely well. This book is not a stand alone and you should read The Innocent first. A word to the wise, start with the Phoenix Club series, it's where the Cowboy is truly introduced and following his journey is a tale of true love and struggle.
This book was a automatic 1 click buy for me. I read this book as part of an arc group,and the author held back the last few chapters now I understand why.This story is best read in the order of the series. I personally love this author and highly recommend the whole series.This continues the story of the Cowboy and Axel and the rest of the extended " family ". I don't want to give anything away just be warned tissues will be needed.
This book is incredible. You get everything you could possibly want and more. From sexy, to romantic , to cute and suspense. There is so much I want to say but I know I would just give to much away. You need to buy this ASAP and read it. Our Cowboy and Egyptian and the gang excel in this. It leaves you wanting more and more and more.
