I GOT A 35 ON THE ENGLISH SECTION WITH THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was a little hesitant to purchase this book because it was a little pricey, but this book is a must have. Not only will it prepare you well for the ACT, but will also improve your grammar and writing skills in general. The book comes with organized sections that start from the basics and develop into more complex mechanics. Each section starts with the grammar mechanic or rule followed by some examples and an explanation of the example. Immediately following those are small quizzes that test the skills learned from that chapter(answers are in the back).-The book is split into two main sections: grammar and mechanics and context-The book comes with a cheat sheet for those who need a summary after reading the book as well as or those who don't like to read as much-There are two complete tests in the back. THESE ARE MUST DO's(Answers with explanations in the back)-An appendix for the Red ACT book released by Petersons for those who need extra practice. The appendix is organized by skill tested and the question number in the Red ACT book.Overall, this book is the bible for the ACT English Section
This was a pretty helpful book to better understand the ACT English section but it only works if you actually do your best to understand everything in the book and make several notes so that you don't forget important info. This book did help me a bit to increase my score but I only increased by 2-3 points and I got this because several people were saying how they increased 10-12 points so I basically thought that I was going to have at least a 10 point increase because of what everyone was saying. My biggest problem with the ACT English section is keeping up with the time and because I usually run out of time I have to guess around 10-12 questions! So I believe that I need to just practice on timing my self a lot. I already have finished reading the whole book and after reading it there are quiet a few errors but I'll ignore them since I did learn some helpful things although I was a little annoyed whenever I found an error because it did a good job confusing the heck out me.
I never write reviews, but this book is worthy of one. The spring of my sophomore year I got a 24 in English (my lowest score at the time). Almost 1 year later after completing the book I received a 35 in English.
My son took the PACT in October and the only subject he did not get a 35 or 36 in was English, he got a 23! He studied this book for a week and did all the practice questions and got a 35 in February! Worth every single penny we spent!
Love this book. I bought this book to prep my kids for ACT. This book is clearly written and down to earth. One caveat— use this book as a guardrail but not as a bible. Some advice in this book dictates critical thinking and is not always as 100% correct.
I went from a 20 to 27 and I didn't even complete the book. I'm planning on taking the test again and aim for an even higher test after thoroughly going through the book from start to finish. If you're trying to improve your English score then buy this. It works, don't question it and just get it. Good luck to all!
Definitely helpful. Allowed me to see all the English rules for the ACT. Printing errors do not affect the quality of this book however. Recommend for anyone wishing to score a 36. Top 6% of my class.
