I am determine to learn the program and find the book very easy to follow. It guides you step by step giving you actual examples of exercises to advance your learning. The book and the videos by the instructor at the college make a great duo for learning SketchUp. Love the book.

It was the only book that helped me understand my class projects.

I found many of the tutorial directions to be confusing or just plain wrong. Maybe its not the right version (it doesn't say what version it is). Maybe its just me...I guess i need sketchup for dummies:)!

I grew up with this book and rediscovered it as a parent. Leo the tiger is having trouble doing all the normal things that his peers can do- eat neatly, play with flowers, make snowmen, write, read, etc. In his own good time he "blooms" and is able to do everything the others were doing, only better. While this is a nice sentiment, as a special needs parent I do have some criticisms. Not all children "bloom" as well as Leo. They may bloom late or not at all. Or when they do bloom it may be in their own way, but not necessarily exceptional compared with their peers, and that's okay too. It's still a good book, and a lesson all parents should take to heart about letting their children develop at their own pace, but the end is not as great as I once thought.

Great book for any kid. I got this book for my son because he's one of the youngest kids in his class and he's still having a bit of a hard time catching up with everybody else. This book helps give him the idea that you don't have to be like everyone else you will come into your own. That is exactly what every child needs to know that they are going to be okay my son was having a really hard time in school because he didn't understand why he wasn't getting certain things that the other kids were since we got this book we read it regularly and he knows like Leo the Tiger he's going to bloom he's going to become him he's going to be able to do all those things and his friends can do it's just going to take him a little bit more time and that's okay there's nothing wrong with taking your time. This should be like a required classroom reading that all teachers should have to read to kindergarteners. This way they understand they don't have to rush and there's nothing wrong with taking your time if you don't get it you keep trying that's all not everybody does everything at the same time. The most inspiring part is the end and my son loves it cuz he can read that line to me without any problems or hesitation or help

I used this with my second grade class to help them to understand that we don't all learn at the same pace. In these days of total classroom inclusion, it is very important for young students to learn to accept all styles of learners, and to know that what may come easily to them may not to others. I revisit this book when it seems the class may be forgetting the important lesson of kindness it teaches, and I remind them of Leo when they tell another child "This is easy!" when the other is struggling. It would also be a great book for parents of special needs children to remind them that they will indeed, bloom.

I got this book 30+ years ago in kindergarten, signed by the illustrator, and have always loved the message it gave. We all grow and mature at different times in our lives. I read this to my older daughter who was just like Leo, she did things in her own time. She has also found a love for this book like me. My daughter picked this book out as a favorite to help start our new nephew’s library. I can’t say enough good things about this book.

In a world in which every middle class parent worries if their child isn't top notch in everything, this book is a beautiful classic to remind us all to relax. I collect children's books, and my husband suggested this one, as he loved it as a child. When I got it, I loved it immediately. It assures children and parents that people progress at different levels, but everybody blooms. My husband was a very small child, shorter than everyone in his class, and this book brought him comfort and encouraged him in what he was good at. About 20 or 25 years later, he's a self-confident, very socially adept doctor! I remember struggling very much in kindergarten and first grade with everything from cutting to skipping to math to reading. Everything clicked for me around 2nd or 3rd grade, and school became a breeze after that. I became self-assured, and successful. I wish I'd had this book when I was struggling with those things... I might have been more confident from the start!For the reviewer concerned that parents would delay help for their children, I doubt a kid's book would have that effect. Parents can tell when something is wrong, and one children's book is going to sway them from taking action!Oh, and the big bonus... the illustrations are darling, and classic 1970's renderings. The words are absolutely heartwarming!

I have loved this book since I bought it back in the early 1980's for my very sweet third son. He had two older brothers and didn't speak as soon or as articulately as they did. He also had learning disabilities and other issues that I know some parents would consider serious developmental problems -- but my viewpoint was that he was perfect just the way he was, and would grow out of anything that seemed to be a "challenge" at that point in his young life. So, when I found this book it touched my heart because it mirrored exactly how I felt about my son! I highly recommend this book for everyone!

Beautiful story and perfect for my girl with Childhood Apraxia of Speech.The binding of our book begin to fall apart after being opened three times, on the day we received it. My husband and I both read through it first. When my daughter came home from school, she was flipping through it before I read it to her and pages fell out. Very disappointing to have to tape up a brand new book.

One of the all-time great stories for pre-K - Gr. 2. I use it as the source storytelling with puppets with students. It is very sucessful for theater-in-the classroom.

This is a well written book, but it is for situational anxiety. If you have anxiety 24/7 (like I do), with no one trigger, this will leave you a crying mess on the floor.

Jennifer Shannon's superbly humorous and insightful book was just what I needed during an especially anxiety-riddled family visit I experienced. The three assumptions kicked in automatically ("I must be 100% certain. I must not make mistakes. I am responsible for everyone happiness and safety") and I was exhausted and upset when my family finally left. Then I reread the chapters on "Purpose and Plan," "Lowering the Stakes," and "Practicing Praise" and immediately felt better. Now I have a plan for the next family-gathering: I'll keep "Don't Feed the Monkey Mind" by my bedside and read one of the helpful tips each evening so that I don't continue feeding my own little mental monkey. I love this book! And the delightful cartoons always put a smile on my face :-) Thank you, Jennifer Shannon!

I've struggled with anxiety for 10+ years, been on medication, regular visits to a therapist and I can say that none of that has been as effective to me as this book. Jennifer Shannon was inside my head throughout the entirety of this book, I often caught myself saying things out loud in disbelief at how much I could relate. Not only could I relate, but her way of changing your thinking was something I feel as though could actually help me on a long term basis. It's also a great read for anyone with loved ones who have anxiety, really helps you understand the struggles.

An old Scottish saying is ‘Better the devil ye ken than the devil ye don’t’. This book really helped me understand my ‘devil’ : my ‘monkey’ mind Anxiety. An easy to follow, interesting book with excellent ideas. I learn best when using analogies, and the ‘monkey mind’ analogy flows through out the book and makes perfect sense to me. Well written and the author injects just enough personalization to make her relatable. One of a very few self-help books that I’ve actually enjoyed reading. The little illustrations are adorable too! I really found this book helpful and recommend re- reading it once again to thoroughly absorb the great information inside.

Daughter loves the book... says "author was inside her head!", which is good. She is using some of what she learned already with satisfaction. I want to read it next!

My group clients are enjoying discussing this book together and applying it to their lives. The "Monkey Mind" analogy is very powerful in understanding why we as humans have anxiety and how we can take a step back and approach life with less fear.

This book had some great suggestions for dealing with anxiety. I like having a mix of stories and then key pointers for making change. There was also a lot of good analogy and rationale mixed in, which helps me remember what to do, and when to apply that advice.

Kay Arthur's new inductive study series is an extremely helpful tool for a small group bible study. The study provides structure for a weekly group discussion and teaches an inductive method to dig deep into the bible daily. However the reason we used the New Inductive series for John and Isaiah is to allow a first time visitor (or a member who didn't do any homework) to attend the group meeting and benefit from reading bible and observing the text.As with Arthur's other studies, the bible text is is the primary focus. Almost all study questions turn the reader's attention back to the bible, or as she states, always interpret scripture with scripture. If you're plan to lead this study, I recommend Howard Hendrix's Living By The Book (although Kay Arthur has a How To Inductive Bible Study that I haven't read).If you're familiar with the main Precept Upon Precept series, you'll miss the convenience of the double-spaced, wide margin book of the bible included with those studies.

I used this in a small group Bible study. I can't say that it was very helpful, but it did divide the study of Isaiah into doable sections.

I am still in the process of going through this Course, but I truly believe this is exactly what I need at this point in my life. ACIM teaches the reader a different way of thinking. This is psychological training rather than religious teaching. I am going through the material slowly, in order to ensure I absorb it!

I am well educated by modern western standards - I have a masters degree in electrical engineering, and a masters degree in business (MBA)...I am middle-aged so I have had plenty of time to witness life on earth...I was also in the US Navy at an early age...I hope this gives you a context for my review........I have to honestly say, without any reservation, from the bottom of my heart - that this is the single MOST IMPORTANT book - rather EDUCATION - of my entire life...Nothing else comes close....If you are seeking true happiness, inner peace, would like to really internalize "why you are here", this is the best work around....If you want to learn how to deal with your resentment, prejudices, and maybe most-importantly, ego - this book will do it for you. And if you don't think you have any of these issues - perhaps you need this book even more!...This book goes beyond formal religion (which I do not partake in), beyond meditation (which I've practiced for ~30 years), and beyond the Bible (which I've read but didn't really "internalize")....I am about half way through the lessons (this is the part you should focus on - the other parts are optional), and I look forward every morning to reading a new lesson - or internalizing the previous lesson...I like this book so much I am going to give out about 7 copies for the holiday's to family and friends......And for any of you with significant health challenges (like me) - what you learn from this book will help you.....Start with lesson one, practice each lesson, have patients, and before you know it - you will see the light....As far as some of the reviews on here that were not so kind, I will not pass judgment of these folks - but wish them well in there journey to "seeing the light".

You will move forward and view the world in an entirely new way, lifting the veil of illusion, letting go of fear, anger, and judgement, and seeing the truth of who we are- beings of Love, Light, Truth, Forgiveness, and Peace.

The most shocking thing you'll notice if you open A Course In Miracles is the deceivingly pretentious introduction that never fails to spark intrigue.And by that I mean, ahem!... Check out the first five sentences..."This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time."Required?The only choice is when I take it at any-given-time?And yet, there is enormous wisdom in it.It takes browsing a few pages to realize that actually, it is required, because it is the only spiritual message there is.It is the same message we hear from anyone that has ever grown into spiritual high levels and tried to tell us how to join them. It is the way.Yes, there is a heavy "Christian" tone to the book. BUT, to my surprise, and unlike the stories I heard in both, catholic-elementary AND catholic-high-school (such was my luck) --- this book interprets things correctly.For example... take a contentious phrase, something like: "revenge is mine".Can you imagine how someone can 'interpret' that to a captivated audience of easily scared listeners? or, worse, can you imagine the reaction of someone who may be furious and stumbling on such a page?It could be dangerous.But the book makes the meaning clear, at least for me..... this is what it says (I paraphrase):Revenge is mine means you NEVER take revenge. You do the right thing, but you do not take revenge because the results of the actions of s/he, whom you perceive as your perpetrator, are NOT up to you, but up to a higher power.Phew!Early this year I took to A Course In Miracles again and found gems within it. I wanted to share some of the most interesting ones with you.Here they are:1.- INFINITE PATIENCE DELIVERS IMMEDIATE RESULTSThe first time I read this one I laughed. I mean, c'mon! Immediate results, oh yeah, ha ha ha.I decided I to put it to the test, that very day. I needed to open a new bank account, and I knew these things take forever. Also I kind of needed it to work because I was already late for work. So I wanted it to work.When the bank representative asked for the usual documents and apologized for the computer being slow, I took it as a sign. I said to myself: infinite patience delivers immediate results. Then...I said to him: "Take your time. No rush at all". (I was sweating inside)But I meant it.The account was open within 12 minutes (I tracked it). I've never seen that happen in a NYC bank before. I was early for work.You see, the thing with this spell is that it has magic in it: it removes "time" from the equation.The first part has the word "infinite" in it: We are outside of time, no beginning, no end, NO TIME.That in turn, is coupled with "patience", which is a human demonstration of infinity.The second part has the word "immediate" in it, which means NOW. NO TIME. And it is coupled with the word "result", meaning: something happens, NOW.NO TIME = INFINITY = NO TIME = SOMETHING HAPPENS NOW.And all we had to do was have an open mind and remember the affirmation.Stepping into the present with an open heart (as you would if you really wanted it to work), gives you an advantage...You are operating from infinity.Try it. You tell me.2.- A MIRACLE IS A SHIFT IN PERCEPTIONThe power of an alchemist lies not in turning dust into gold. That is just a metaphor to show the strength of the mind that lies behind such a miracle.A real miracle is one that happens when in spite of desperation, hurt, defeat, bankruptcy, we still shift our perception from lack, to abundance.We have our feet on the ground, we know where we are, but we also trust the infinite force that is keeping us alive right now, and we know we are abundant, in this moment, because we are here.How is that for a miracle?The Course in Miracles re-defines the meaning of a 'miracle' as something quite mundane which we can do only if we are strong enough.Why do we need to be strong enough? Because changing our habits is not easy.Looking at a situation in a different light requires humility. We need to feel the fire of anger, let it go, and re-open our minds for new possibilities.The stuff of alchemists...3.- I DON'T PERCEIVE MY OWN BEST INTERESTSThis one blew my mind right of its skull.I mean, how true is that? Give it a minute, let it sink in.There is a story of that enlightened monk who, one night, gets a visit from the parents of the teen-age girl that lives next door.The parents are furious, and they accuse him of getting their daughter pregnant. They tell him he will have to look after the baby. And that they will tell everyone in the village. That he is a fraud.The monk says: Is that so?No reaction. He is aware that he does not perceive his own best interests.The baby is born. He takes care of it. And the monk's reputation is ruined, of course.A year later the parents come back and apologize, they tell him their daughter confessed that the child was fathered by the butcher. And, that they want the baby back.The monk says: Is that so?The baby goes back to his parents.The monk's reputation is restored. Further, perhaps he now becomes a legend.We are talking about it now.The story survives because there is truth in it.---How does that introduction I told you about in the beginning continue? Check out the next two lines..."The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. I got this book to prepare for an end-of-the-world class in my Mythology course, despite not being much of a zombie fan, but ended up loving it. This book is nothing at all like the movie, and that's a good thing. As others have commented, it's told as individual stories told years after the events, and the characterization, and the thought about military, medical, and social implications are all compelling. There is some unexpected interweaving of stories as well. The narrators are from different places, professions, perspectives, and lifestyles, and the zombies are more like the zombies we know and sorta love since Night of the Living Dead. Definitely for the intelligent zombie fans, in particular in offering strategic ideas to those who, like my daughter, keep plywood, hammer and nails handy in case it becomes necessary to board up our windows when the zombies come.

Really enjoyed this book! I had seen the movie and enjoyed it but left with lots of questions. I was intrigued with the more mundane type of questions about a world with such zombies. How did things get this bad initially? How did people survive? I wanted to know more of the surrounding universe to a degree and this book delivered.It is not at all like the movie with a main character on some quest to save the world. It follows many different groups and people as they struggle with the outbreak of the global pandemic. It can be hard to follow sometimes with so many different people and situations going on but it is quite interesting. It presents a great picture of so many different countries and groups and their experiences combating or losing to the zombies. It is an amazing change of pace from what you would see as a traditional zombie/pandemic/world-ending event book. You get a sense of all the struggles and hard decisions that such an event would bring about. It's not some super hero or special agent saving the world. It's about regularly people struggling to survive and society coming together to combat the greatest enemy humanity has ever known.

This was an interesting, fairly entertaining read. The concept was clever, it was set up as an "oral history" of a great zombie war that almost wiped out the human race. Short "interviews" built the story from how the war started and what happened during in various countries at various times. The authors used this brief interview format to introduce a range of characters, many of who can be readily mapped onto current political figures and celebrities. The reason I give it only 3 stares is because I ended up thinking it sort ran out of gas about 2/3 of the way through. I was ready for it to be over, the stories got a little less interesting and, frankly at times simply boring. Edited down it would have been stronger.

I have to start by admitting it was difficult for me to get into this book at first but I'm so happy I stuck with it for a few stories. It's very different to me to begin in the middle of a story that the storyteller knows and the reader doesn't, but after a few entries it is so compelling to find out the history of the war from so many perspectives at so many points in time. The author does an amazing job at bringing a believable voice to narrators from all places, perspectives and walks of life. Some stories are stronger than others but none were boring to me. Some stories were so powerful and I imagine individual readers will identify and attach to each story differently. I really think there is something here for everyone. Although it begins with a story of "patient zero" the book is not on an entirely linear time table so be prepared to jump around in the history of the war. The author creates such a believable wartime picture through the people you get to meet and the details that it feels very real despite its premise. I especially liked experiencing the details of each story through the storyteller. You see each situation through their education level, job, age, life experience, prejudices, strengths and geography which keeps the book fresh throughout. A note about the film, it's not really a true adaptation at all, it's a fairly run of the mill zombie popcorn film. If you love the book, maybe don't take your expectations from the book into the movie and it may still be a fun watch but it does not have the power and interest of the book by a long shot. It mainly just shares a title and a skeleton of the story, kind of like reading The Serpent and the Rainbow and then seeing the movie by the same name. I would love to see World War Z made into a TV mini series and faithfully adapted, with each episode introduced at the start of the person being interviewed and showing their own personal story.

The movie was so disappointing compared to the book. I read the book and then listened to the audiobook version as well. Mark Hammil is great on that. This book really does a great job telling a complete story from the perspective of different narrators. I think this is the best zombie book I have read and lament the fact the movie pales in comparison. Pick this up if you aren't burn out on zombies by this point in the millennium
